Throughout the Grendel trial, I have noticed that the opposition side, Position One, was lacking supports to back their evidences. In my opinion, Position Two had won the Grendel trial due to their specific knowledge and had very stronger evidence to their witnesses. The lawyers and witnesses were had very strong questions, arguments, and stable textual support from the text, Grendel. As the witnesses went up to the front, the questions that the lawyers had made to their witnesses were very effected, and it gives us background view from different point of view. I was able to see the teamwork between the witnesses and the lawyers in the Position One. Through that teamwork, Position One were able to have solid textual supports, concise arguments, and maybe going in for more details. On the other hand even though Position Two had very strong, stabled textual support, the Dragons got into a wrong direction. As the lawyer from opposition side, Position Two, questioned the dragons about why the Dragon said to go seek out gold if the world is meaningless. It meant that the gold that the Dragon is protecting has no meaning and that Dragon had no mean to protect the gold from danger. This textual statement infers to us that there is meaning in life, and life is planned accident. As Beowulf made the speech, he claimed that even after his death, heroism will live on through the people's mind. The body will disappear but the heroism will live on from generation to generation. As Dragon mentioned that there is no point of living due to our morality, from generation to generation the stories about Beowulf, and how he became king will be written from descendants. This was one of the major weakness that the opposition, Position One, had that Position Two was able to attack. In conclusion, better understanding and comprehendible speech from Position Two had gained victory over the opposition. Even though they had made some error on criticizing the opposition, most importantly the connections and the analyses made the victory on their side. “The world and everything in it is unplanned accident, existence is meaningless; the past is irrelevant; nothing matters.” was proved to be false through textual evidences and the teamwork of Position Two.
